Hence, starting Monday night or Tuesday night, I'll finally be working on this place. I don't know how much good it'll do considering everybody left and we abandoned our project after I lost computer access and went on my last hiatus; BUT I have my own computer now. Now, all we have to worry about is the hard-drive crashing, my RAM failing, or my processor not processing. ;D

Unfortunately, recent events have impaired my internet usage. I'll just give it to you straight up - due to the 'unproductivity' in my life, I've been basically banned from the only computer I have access to except for on a limited basis. Hopefully, tomorrow I will have access and I will fully devote my time to doing the graphics all in one turn and get as much done as possible. I will promise that I'll give it my best and cover as much ground as possible. Other than that however, I won't be able to participate very much at all. Something always happens to screw my scene up every time the 'getting is good'. Needless to say, I'm somewhat unhappy.

Seasons of the Year
There are four seasons within Ashlomn: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. These, in turn, are divided up into smaller sections by the denizens of Ashlomn: Mid-Spring, Mid-Summer, Mid-Fall, and Mid-Winter. These Mid classifications are often used to simply refer to the months after that season, but before the new season.

Before each new season begins, the denizens hold a celebration to welcome in the new season, though Winter is no where near as popular as Spring. Of course, there are four celebrations to match the four seasons: the Eve of Spring, the Eve of Summer, the Eve of Fall, and the Eve of Winter. Since there are thirty days in each month, each "eve" takes place on the thirtieth day of a certain month. The Eve of Spring is on the thirtieth day of Februne that leads into Spring. The Eve of Summer is on the thirtieth day of Mae that leads into Summer. The Eve of Fall is on the thirtieth day of Corthyrum that leads into Fall. The Eve of Winter is on the thirtieth day of Narlin that leads into Winter.

Because Spring is a time of "renewal" and "growth", each new year starts upon the very first day of Spring (Alonyamar) and ends on the last day of Winter (Februne).

Months of the Year
1st Month -- Alonyamar [Spring begins the first of this month]
2nd Month -- Taernisen
3rd Month -- Mae
4th Month -- Soebisthen [Summer begins the first of this month]
5th Month -- Sharulevenmar
6th Month -- Corthyrum
7th Month -- Liri [Fall begins the first of this month]
8th Month -- Ossin
9th Month -- Narlin
10th Month -- Farulahurmar [Winter begins the first of this month]
11th Month -- Nyr
12th Month -- Februne

The month Alonyamar is named after the Elemental Deity of Earth, also symbolizing the beginning of Spring.

Directly after Alonyamar is Taernisen, named after the Elemental Deity of Water. These two are coupled, and help to symbolize Spring's promise of "renewal" and the "growing of crops".

Mae is named after the elven noble Myiatna, who slew the mighty red wyrm, Thanatozis.

Soebisthen is named after the Elemental Deity of Fire, symbolizing the beginning of Summer, and the intense heat that comes with that season.

Sharulevenmar comes after Soebisthen, named after the Elemental Deity of Air. This symbolizes the promise of cool winds to help ease the heat of Summer.

Corthyrum is named after the very first king that founded the kingdom of Corthyr.

Liria is named after the slaying of a dragon that begun the Draconic Wars, and spurred the other deities to bring other races unto Ashlomn.

Ossin is the eighth month and was named after the first powerful wizard to master the art of magic.

Narlin is the ninth month, and coincidentally the identical twin to Ossin the wizard. This month is named after this twin since it leads into Winter, and the "death" of what Spring created. Narlin murdered his identical twin brother, Ossin.

Farulahurmar is named after the deity of ice, symbolizing that Winter is here, and her promise of cold winds and snow to come will be made true.

Nyr means "sorrow" in Elven, and symbolizes the general mood of the denizens of Ashlomn as Winter sets in. It is also speculated that this is the month when the Wars of Sorrow for the Elves began.

Februne is the last month of the year, and is named after an ancient Rune created by Ossin the Wizard. This rune was lost after he was murdered by his brother.

*Each month has thirty days, and there are 390 days in a year.

Days of the Week
There are six days in each week, and each day is named after the stars within the immense heavens. They are named in order according to how they appear overhead in the sky. The last three stars that appear at night are listed after Alloran because they appear right at dusk.

1st Day -- Lumiaday
2nd Day -- Sylverday
3rd Day -- Alloranday
4th Day -- Formenday
5th Day -- Istelday
6th Day -- Helwaday

Lumiaday is the first day of the week, and is named after Illumia. Illumia is the name of the larger moon that appears only in the sky at night, as well as the supposed name of the deity that chose to take that form to help provide light to Ashlomn at night.

Sylverday is the second day of the week, and is named after Sylver. Sylver is the name of the smaller moon that rises into the sky during mid-day and sets at mid-night. Sylver is also the supposed name of the deity that chose to take the form of a lesser moon to provide a beautiful sight during the day beside the bright sun, as well as give extra lighting at night.

Alloranday is the third day of the week, and is named after Alloran. Alloran is the name of the sun, as well as supposedly the name of the deity who chose to take the form of the sun to provide light during the day.

Formenday is the fourth day of the week, and is named after the north star. Formen is Elvish for North.

Istelday is the fifth day of the week, and is named after the large silver star that appears in the heavens immediately after Alloran, the sun. Istel is Elvish for "silver light".

Helwaday is the sixth and last day of the week, and is named after the slightly smaller blue star that appears in the heavens after Istel. Helwa is Elvish for "pale blue".

I never thought I was going to need this particular forum. In fact, I never thought anyone was going to need this forum, and I suppose I don't actually need it. However, since it's actually here, I figured I'd find a use for it. People who want to jump in, cheer, try to pick a winner beforehand, etc, can feel free, might as well.

There are some characters that are fairly big time in a world called Toril, in a land called Faerun. Some recognize this as the Forgotten Realms D&D setting, and some don't give a shit. Some of the people listed in the campaign guide, I've just always wanted to fight. The two most prevelant examples? Lord Miklos Selkirk of Sembia, and the extremely famous hero of over a dozen novels now, Drizz't do'Urden. In this thread (because I literally have nothing better to do), I'm going to put a few of these folks in single combat with a character I've been playing for almost a year now. I created him at lvl one, raised him to lvl three at my DM's instruction, and have kept him alive long enough to see him reach lvl thirteen. I'll adjust his level up or down to match the level of the individual he's taking on, and his gear as well; 13th lvl gear>10th lvl gear, in about 90% of all cases, and my character will have what he actually had three lvls ago.

Because the Forgotten Realms campaign guide I'm using is the original 3.0 ruleset, all fights and characters will be handled accordingly, with the following house rule: if it's in the critical threat range, and it beats the AC, it's a crit. No rolls to confirm. Natural 20 is still auto success, meaning it's also auto crit. Taylor has been pretty devestating to most opponents, and I fully expect him to kick the shit out of these people; so, first up, Lord Selkirk, gallant nobleman and undeniably lethal swordsman, who takes full advantage of one of the dumbest rules I've ever seen, but hey, it should help him.

Miklos Selkirk, level 10, challenge rating 10
HP: 61
Init: +4
Speed: 60
AC: 22
Touch AC: 16
Flat Footed AC: 18
Attack: +2 Keen Rapier +8/+3; +2 Defending Dagger +8
Damage: +2 Keen Rapier 1d6+2 (12-20/x2), +2 Defending Dagger 1d4+2 (19-20/x2)
Special: Sneak Attack +2d6, Improved Critical (Rapier)

Jesse Taylor, level 10, challenge rating 10
HP: 87
Speed: 30ft
Init: +6
AC: 22
Touch AC: 15
Flat Footed AC: 18
Attack: Rapier of Flame Burst +13/+8; Rapier of Frost Burst +13
Damage: Rapier of Flame Burst 1d6+1d6+8 (15-20/x2+1d8 Flame), Rapier of Frost Burst 1d6+1d6+6 (15-20/x2+1d8 Frost)
Special: Sneak Attack +2d6, Improved Critical (Rapier)

By the numbers, Taylor has more health, better attacks, and better damage, while Selkirk is twice as fast in terms of raw ground speed, has an unbelievable chance to score critical hits, and (because of the defending dagger) is potentially harder to hit.

Since I'm tired, I'll wait until tomorrow to do it by the dice.

Naturally, that edition of Ascendance crashed and burned, and was replaced by something that was, essentially, unusable, at least for blogs.

So, with the announcement that the site is going to be sticking around for at least another two years, I tenatively feel confident enough to start things up again. Hopefully, we've found a format that the programming genii will stay in love with for a long time to come, and which won't suddenly fold down like an army cot about the time we get comfy with it.

And if the programming genii don't stay in love with it, it'd better damn well be transferrable, which was the only reason I didn't object to the change.

I enjoy seeing a sense of progression in blogs. Because each entry is a snapshot of the world at the time, it's not difficult to determine, fairly quickly, whether or not progress is being made, in any direction, on anything. While the answer is often a resounding "no," the occasional yes is nifty.

So. I have been miserably ill for a week. My health is now much better. While sick, geeking it up with my D&D stuffs, I figured out how to take a Tarrasque alone. If you're not familiar with the Tarrasque, imagine a tank the size of a yacht that eats people and, if destroyed, repairs itself completely in just over two minutes. Now picture some dude killing it with a sword. I know others have pulled it off, but it's a first for me, so I was proud of it. Sort of. For geek cred.

This is the third time I've kicked off my blog on good ol' Ascendance, going back to the days when it wasn't even called Ascendance yet.
With the faintest of howling in the background, light breezes carry cool air through the woodlands, stirring leaves and braving the foilage overhead. This was the territory of owls, the grandfather bird of knowledge with an ever watchful eye to stalk his prey. And it was ordained so by decades of reigning predatory hunting, and because in burrows below rested at night many families of hare. Just as long as the rabbits had made the Red Woods their traditional mating ground in the day, the owls have hunted at evening, night, and early morning. This evening was no different. The clouds overhead were scattered, repeatedly blocking then revealing the early rising moon and what daylight was left clinging to the sky from beyond the distant horizon. It'd rained over the night before and all morning, and the ground remained still moist.

Under leaves and small underbrush, dampness and slippery leaves providing hostile grounds to walk upon. One could easily slip and fall to the ground, and just as easily step into a rabbit-hole and break or sprain an ankle. Once more, limbs fallen from the Red Oaks towering above laid scattered across the floor of the woods, serving and betraying many purposes. They could easily be tripped over, just like the roots of the oaks all around, or they could be used as weapons. All the same, they eventually rott and fertilize the soil with carbons and likewise.

Denbe walked carefully through the woods, easing by and avoiding any higher levels of sound. Perhaps if he remained careful enough, he could catch a rabbit and find himself dinner. Though, sneaking up on the tricky hare and catching them by hand before one could run was rather complicated and doubtful. Still, his optimism and terrible hunger kept him thriving and pursuing prey just as well practices and disciplines as the owls watching from high above.

I've been known to create a blog or two in my past. That's fine and all, but there is one problem. I always come back and delete them. Some people are fixated on the past, but I oppose that preference. I seem to subconsciously, strongly dislike the past.

For example, I don't like old pictures of me. I don't like old grudging subjects to be brought up and used against me; but who does? I don't like old, out-dated blogs. They're like expired milk. I'm not sure why this is, but I think it's that I appreciate creativity and the birth of new things. The past is a reminder of what to me look like failures, previous attempts that could have been better. My logic is partially correct, I think. However, deleting everything I wrote or typed in the past doesn't seem like the answer. Henceforth, I vow to... me... to not delete this blog, or monologue, or whatever.

If I see something I don't like, maybe I can re-blog about it. Respond to my own blog with thoughts about previous topics mentioned in the blog. Perhaps I can polish my old ideas, and post better, revised versions. Whatever is necessary, I will try to do; but for once, I would like to see if I can maintain one without deleting it out of shame, or whatever emotion it is that I experience when I click "Delete".

To my complete startlement, Prince of Persia comes out on Tuesday. I haven't even managed to finish Fable II yet (largely because it's better than the first, but still sucks), and my next big title has arrived. Mirror's Edge is out, haven't gotten to play it, Dead Space is out, haven't sank into it, Fallout 3... it's a good thing '09 looks like a crappy year in gaming, or else I might not ever get caught up. If it weren't for a GTA IV expansion, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bioshock 2, and Mass Effect 2, I wouldn't be looking forward to much of anything next year, although CoD 6 is slated for next fall. World at War just came out, and the next one's already in production, they're apparently going to milk the series for all it's worth.

There will be a new Harry Potter game out next year. Count on it. The fact that it's not listed anywhere (that I've seen) means nothing, the sixth film is slated for June, and the game tie-in will be along as well.

Nintendo's offering for "hardcore gamers," Animal Crossing: City Folk, is out, and, one can only hope, falling flat. I view this as a game so bad, the developer needs to be punished for it.

And I have one great hope for next year: Hitman V. I would collect pennies to buy this, if that's what it took. It seems like so long since I had a fresh victim to shove over a railing, drown, or drop a chandalier on. The only thing I have left to do in IV is gain the Silent Assassin ranking on the tutorial level, I've got every single gamer achievement for a perfect thousand points in the game.

So what, if anything, are people looking forward to out there? What's spinning in your system?

Okay, so I was browsing around and come across a few different boards.

One was an RO (Ragnorak Online) Private Server, another was a board for MMORPG, and the other three were just plain ol' communities with no attachments. The first two are ruled out because of course we're not game developers and we don't host RO games, and etcetera. The others, and several that had even a fraction of the level of their activity, I am curious about.

These boards have in the neighborhood of 200,000 - 400,00 posts, and range anywhere from 15-30,000 members registered. Among those vast numbers, more than 2,000 and sometimes 3,000 members are active - they're regulars to the community. As for the others, there's no telling... they could be old accounts, people who come and go due to real life circumstances, and so forth.

While it's true that some of the boards may have been around longer than we have, some of them suprisingly haven't been around much longer. So my question, to avoid more typing and reading (for you).. any ideas on what we could do to be more appealing? There's no reason to expand without members, but if we don't at least appeal to somebody's needs or desires, we'll never make it anywhere. Any ideas? I'm thinking and looking to recruit, too.
